Joe began shooting when he was in high school. As a photographer and filmmaker, he has spent virtually his entire life studying light, composition, and animal behavior. As writer and director of all of the Benji movies, he pioneered a motion picture form wherein animal expression is the dialog of the film, so he knows how to bring horses to life.

All of the photos on the website were taken by Joe (except those of Joe, of course. They were either taken by Kathleen, Debbie Loucks, or Tony Demin).
